THERE IS GREAT INTERNATIONAL INTEREST—
LEAVE COAL, OIL AND GAS IN THE GROUND
The energy transition is the key guarantor of an energy supply that is affordable in the future; it is also Germany’s most important contribution to climate protection and simultaneously to greater global justice. Above all, people from the countries of the global South benefit from a successful energy transition and a reversal of the uncontrollable consequences of climate change.
Accordingly, there is great international interest in Germany’s energy transition. Many countries are following, with a critical and attentive eye, whether an industrialized country such as Germany will be able to redesign its energy system in a climate-friendly and sustainable manner at a reasonable cost and with overall positive macroeconomic and social consequences…
The issue of how the energy transition can be developed into an employment development programme is key to just structural development (just transition strategy). Long-term climate and energy goals should therefore also be linked to employment policy objectives (job creation, good work, collective bargaining).
